Maria Phillips - Creative Partner

Unusually, I began my copywriting career at art college, where I swiftly discovered that writing as opposed to drawing was more my cup of tea. After a stint in Leeds and Manchester agencies, I moved to London and the glittering lights of Bayswater to become a writer at WWAV. There I was promoted to creative director, with the challenging task of managing 50 creatives of varying temperaments. (This gave me invaluable training for bringing up my own two kids.)

In September 2002, I left WWAV to set up a new agency with John Watson and Tod Norman, finding the idea of a start-up run by a Methodist, a Catholic and a Jew impossible to resist. So far it's been a lot of hard work and a lot of fun in equal measures, and I'm having the time of my life.

I'm passionate about creative, curries and my kids (though not necessarily in that order). And after 25 years of being paid to write, I still think words are amazing, magical things - probably the reason why I belong to three book clubs.
